1Kosmos, listed in Epic Toolbox, plugs into the EpicCare Link onboarding flow to verify external professionals at the point of access. New users receive an email link to scan their government ID and take a selfie. 1Kosmos then runs that data through a decentralized multi-factor model, cross-verifying biometric records, device identity, and authoritative third-party sources. This reaches IAL2/AAL2 assurance and blocks impersonation, credential fraud, and unauthorized PHI access. No manual review required. With this integration
Health systems can verify any external professional at the moment an EpicCare Link account is created. Verification is triggered automatically when a new account is provisioned, sending the user an email link to complete a government ID scan and selfie. 1Kosmos confirms identity before access is granted, with results returned directly to Epic through an OIDC connection.
No custom development is required on the health system side. The full workflow is configurable through 1Kosmos Workflow Builder, giving health systems control over verification steps and onboarding logic.
Prerequisites
Epic EpicCare Link environment: An active EpicCare Link instance with administrator access to configure external user onboarding workflows.
Active 1Kosmos tenant with IDV enabled: Administrator access to the 1Kosmos admin portal. Contact 1kosmos.com/contact if IDV is not yet active on your tenant.
OIDC configuration access: Rights to configure OIDC connections within your Epic environment.
User contact data: Email addresses for external users must be available at the time of account creation. The integration sends verification links via email to initiate the proofing session.
Integration notes
The integration connects to Epic via OIDC with no custom development required on the health system side. Verification is completed by the external user on their own device before account access is provisioned, keeping the process out of the onboarding team's hands entirely. Health systems with an existing 1Kosmos contract can activate this integration at no additional cost.
